The new independent AVILOO Battery Certificate
The certificate confirms the state of health (SoH) of the traction battery and ensures that it meets safe operating standards.
The SoH value is calculated using the AVILOO algorithm based on real vehicle data.
The report includes a comparative analysis with similar electric vehicles, allowing buyers to evaluate battery performance within the vehicle class.
A visual scale clearly indicates whether the vehicle's battery is performing below average, average, or above average.
The test checks the functionality of the battery management system, sensor accuracy, important parameters at pack and cell level, and communication stability.
The voltages of the entire battery pack and individual cells are analyzed to rule out hidden defects.
The report identifies anomalies or potential risks, avoiding costly surprises after purchase.
In addition to the WLTP range, we also provide a real-world range based on comparable vehicles and an individual range based on the vehicle's previous average consumption.
The AVILOO FLASH Test is quick (3 minutes), easy to perform, and completely independent – the official certificate is issued immediately.
The results are securely stored and can be accessed at any time via QR code, allowing buyers and sellers to verify authenticity directly.
The State of Health (SoH) represents the condition of the vehicle's high voltage battery at the time of testing with the AVILOO FLASH Test. The FLASH Test SoH is calculated using a statistical model that takes into account thousands of similar vehicles and multiple predictors such as mileage, age, various SoH estimation signals from the Battery Management System (BMS), energy counters, cell voltage spread and many other signals, and can therefore reliably estimate the current condition of the vehicle under test. It is expressed as a percentage from which the current storable energy and range can be calculated as follows:
Actual available energy = SoH/100 * energy in new condition.
Current range = SoH/100 * new range.
The AVILOO Benchmark compares the State of Health (SoH) with that of similar vehicle types under similar conditions, providing a meaningful reference to help assess battery condition relative to comparable vehicles and support informed decisions on maintenance, resale value and warranty claims. AVILOO has by far the most comprehensive database of tested electric vehicles in the industry and therefore provides the most accurate benchmark. To do this, a non-linear model is used to determine the median degradation of a vehicle type, and the percentile of the tested vehicle is derived from this model.
The Battery Checks provide verification of key battery system components, including the battery management system (BMS), sensors, measurement accuracy, individual cell voltages and vehicle communication. This ensures that the battery system is operating correctly and reliably.
For example, the vehicle communication check verifies that all signals are plausible, have the correct sampling rate and meet the required quality standards.
Details of all the checks are given in the following sections.
Gross Energy
Gross Energy is the total energy physically stored in the battery. It is a theoretical value because the average car cannot be charged high enough (upper buffer) and discharged low enough (lower buffer), and losses within the battery further reduce the extractable energy.
Net (Nominal) Energy
Net (Nominal) Energy is the gross energy reduced by buffers and internal battery losses. It is therefore the energy available from 100% State of Charge (SoC) to standstill. It is based on WLTP standards (see the WLTP section for more information).
Usable Energy
Usable Energy is the Net (Nominal) Energy reduced by the emergency reserve and refers to the energy available from 100% to 0% SoC. The emergency reserve is intended to ensure that the driver is always able to
reach the next charging station, even if the SoC is already 0%. However, it is important to note that not all vehicles have this emergency reserve; for these vehicles, the net energy and usable energy are the same.
New & Current
The values shown in this table are separated into new and current values, the new values represent the amount of energy storable in new conditions and are either provided by the manufacturer or estimated by AVILOO, the current values are calculated from the estimated SoH and the new values.
WLTP Range
The WLTP Range represents the driving range of a vehicle as determined by the Worldwide Harmonised Light-Duty Vehicles Test Procedure (WLTP). It represents the official range declared by the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) and during this test procedure the vehicle is driven from 100% SoC (State of Charge) to standstill and therefore the net (nominal) energy of the vehicle's battery is used during the WLTP cycle.
Typical Range
The Typical Range is a more realistic range than the WLTP Range because it is based on the real world consumption of thousands of similar vehicles tested by AVILOO. To make it even more realistic, the range is calculated with the usable energy between 100% and 0% SoC, therefore the emergency reserve is not included in this range and it therefore represents the everyday range.
Personal Range
The personal range refers to the driving range of the tested vehicle and is calculated from the individual consumption of the tested vehicle if this value is provided by the control unit. If not, the personal range cannot be calculated and is therefore an optional value.
The execution protocol lists all the steps from the start of the flash test to its completion, providing a clear overview of the entire process.
Sensor checks verify the accuracy and availability of voltage, current and temperature measurements to detect anomalies, sensor faults or erratic cell behaviour that could affect battery performance and safety.
This section shows the State of Charge (SoC) and State of Health (SoH) as reported by the Battery Management System (BMS) and therefore not calculated by AVILOO.
The calculation accuracy checks identify deviations between the SoC measured by AVILOO and the BMS SoC, and between the SoH measured by AVILOO and the BMS SoH. These checks help ensure data reliability and detect potential sensor errors.
Low data reliability and potential sensor errors can lead to inaccurate battery diagnostics, poor performance assessments, incorrect maintenance decisions, increased risk of undetected battery problems and ultimately reduced safety and shorter battery life.
This section provides the measured battery temperature, cell voltage, pack voltage and average current values, and warns if the values are too extreme or if there is a large spread between the minimum and maximum values. These checks enable early detection of thermal or electrical imbalances, potential safety hazards and signs of cell ageing or defects.
The cell voltage graph shows the individual voltage of each cell in volts (V). This makes it possible to detect cell spreads.
Cell spreads refer to the difference in voltage between the highest and lowest individual cells in a battery pack. A large spread can indicate imbalance, ageing or faults in specific cells, which can negatively affect the overall performance, efficiency and safety of the battery. Therefore, the aim is for all cell voltages to remain close to the median to ensure balanced performance and optimal battery health.
